Think About Your Eyes Wins 2011 Bulldog Award For Excellence In Media And Public Relations

By Essilor News

Alexandria, VA (April 11, 2011) – The Think About Your Eyes campaign from the Foundation for Eye Health Awareness has been recognized with a 2011 Bulldog Award for Excellence in Media and Public Relations. Think About Your Eyes received bronze honors in the Best Health, Medicine & Fitness Campaign category for its campaign launch activities in New York and Chicago last summer.

In May 2010, Think About Your Eyes ended National Healthy Vision Month with “Think About Your Eyes Week” in New York City as part of its effort to educate Americans about the importance of yearly comprehensive eye exams and the benefits they can provide to vision and overall health. All eyes were on Times Square for a surprise Think About Your Eyes dance performance – complete with 10 giant, dancing eyeballs, as well as 90 more dancers and an eye-catching Think About Your Eyes branded double-decker sight-seeing bus that toured the city during the month. The group of professional and volunteer dancers broke into a choreographed dance routine set to a song about eye health, energizing and exciting onlookers on Broadway. Think About Your Eyes also unveiled a six-story eye chart in Times Square to help reinforce this important vision health message that remained visible throughout the summer.

In July 2010, Think About Your Eyes celebrated “Think About Your Eyes Week” in Chicago, taking street teams, which included the giant costumed eyeballs, to Wrigley Field, Navy Pier and Lincoln Park Zoo to remind people about the importance of vision health. To further discuss this important issue, Think About Your Eyes team members presented to other industry leaders in Chicago at the Eye Health Summit hosted by the Foundation for Eye Health Awareness. The group discussed plans for continuing to raise public awareness about the need for improved vision health in America.

The Think About Your Eyes campaign launch was an overwhelming success and generated more than 213.5 million paid, earned and owned media impressions.

Winners of the 2011 Bulldog Awards for Excellence in Media and Public Relations Campaigns enter a pantheon of exemplary practitioners. Winners were chosen from hundreds of entries that represent the very best strategic and tactical prowess that PR and corporate communications has to offer. Campaigns were judged by dozens of working journalists, who assessed them on the basis of their ability to achieve extraordinary visibility and influence opinion, as well as on their creativity, command of media and technology, and tenacity. Winning entries will be covered in the 2011 Bulldog Awards “Hall of Fame” magazine.

“We are excited and honored to receive this prestigious recognition and be named among the best of the best in public relations and social media campaigns,” said Mike Daley, president and executive director, Foundation for Eye Health Awareness. “We look forward to continuing to produce award- winning work that garners attention for the importance of vision health and yearly comprehensive eye exams.”

Last year, Think About Your Eyes was also recognized with two Platinum MarCom Awards in the External Communication Program and Special Event categories. The MarCom Awards is an international competition for marketing and communication professionals involved in the concept, writing and design of marketing and communication programs and print, visual and audio materials. Entries come from corporate marketing and communication departments, advertising agencies, PR firms, design shops and freelancers.

The Think About Your Eyes campaign is focused in nine cities across the United States, including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Denver, Atlanta, Houston, Sacramento, Cincinnati and Portland, Ore.
