Essilor Vision Foundation Receives Dallas ISD Superintendent's Award
By Essilor News
DALLAS – May 9, 2013 – Dallas Independent School District Superintendent of Schools, Mike Miles, recognized Essilor Vision Foundation with the 2013 Superintendent’s Award for the organization’s outstanding ongoing support of Dallas ISD. Since 2008, Essilor Vision Foundation has partnered with schools across the district to provide vision screenings, eye exams, and new eyeglasses to thousands of children in need at no cost to their families.
The mission of the Essilor Vision Foundation is to eliminate poor vision and its lifelong consequences. In addition to providing vision services, the Foundation also educates parents, teachers and the general public about eye health and the critical role it plays in literacy, education, society, community, safety, and the economy. Additionally, the Foundation takes a leadership role in creating partnerships in communities to increase access to good vision care.
“Essilor Vision Foundation is proud of our long-term relationship with Dallas ISD, and receiving the Superintendent’s Award is a true testament of our commitment to eliminating poor vision and its lifelong consequences among our local communities and throughout the world,” said Stephen Shawler, president of Essilor Vision Foundation. “This partnership has impacted the lives of thousands of students, teachers, principals, and families across the district by providing the opportunity for children to see life with a new set of eyes thus improving their behavior both in and out of the classroom.”
The Dallas ISD Superintendent’s Award is traditionally presented to an individual, business, or group that has given outstanding support on a district-wide basis, including volunteer service, special programs, funding, or a combination of all of these. Essilor Vision Foundation has provided eye exams and glasses to more than 21,000 U.S. children and is also making an impact on a global scale.
