Essilor of America celebrates Earth Day, every day
By Rick Gadd
In recognition of Earth Day, I’d like to take a moment to reflect on what sustainability means to Essilor, to the communities we serve, and for me personally. At the center of my values is leaving the world a better place than we found it. Essilor believes the same thing, and it’s one of the reasons I am so passionate about the mission of our company. Our business has a significant role to play in solving the sustainability challenges of today.
For some, sustainability is a buzzword with no real action behind it. That’s not Essilor. We keep our promise to act sustainably through our efforts to reduce water usage, our commitment to reduce energy usage, our work to limit our carbon footprint and most importantly through our employee focus on sustainability.
I’m pleased to announce that we are booting plastic from our Dallas campus. Starting today, we now offer Eco-friendly paper cups and wooden stirrers--in place of Styrofoam and plastic. We’ve introduced water filtration systems at our coffee bars to reduce the amount of plastic water bottles and plastic cups on campus and replaced the plastic utensils, food containers, drinking straws, and cups with new bio-ware materials. Recycling is made easy as all employees now have recycling bins at their desk.
By making educated and deliberate choices in our workplace, I believe we can make bigger changes for the world. Today is just a start, and only small part of our overall sustainability plan. But it's a start that will have a big impact in the lives of our employees and the communities we serve.
