Essilor Breaks Ground On New World-Class Technology And Innovation Center

DALLAS – May 27, 2011 – City of Farmer’s Branch, Texas Mayor Bill Glancy and Chamber of Commerce president Fred Ferguson joined Essilor senior executives at the ceremonial groundbreaking of the company’s new world-class Innovation and Technology Center.
Essilor of America president and chief executive officer, John Carrier, and Essilor International corporate senior vice president of Research and Development, Jean-Luc Schuppiser, joined the ceremony, which kicked off the construction of an impressive 43,000 square-foot facility. Scheduled to open in April 2012, the new Innovation and Technology Center will allow Essilor, the nation’s leading manufacturer of optical lenses, to combine and strengthen its research and development and engineering resources under one roof. By relocating the current Research and Development Center with 50 employees in St. Petersburg, Fla. to Farmers Branch, Essilor will create a center that represents the company’s continued commitment to research and development.
“By sharing workspace, resources, and equipment between our staff of 75 research and development and engineering professionals, Essilor will be able to better develop products with improved quality and shorter time to market,” said John Carrier, president and Chief Executive Officer, Essilor of America. “The close proximity to the sales and marketing team at the Essilor of America headquarters will also better enable us to best design innovative products that meet and exceed our customer’s needs.”
Chief financial officer and senior vice president, finance & administration of Essilor of America, Kevin Rupp, and senior vice president of Physics-Chemistry Research & Development, Franck Lestournelle also attended the event along leadership from the St. Petersburg facility as well as the employees of the current Innovation and Technology Center and Essilor of America headquarters.
