DALLAS – (Dec. 13, 2010) – Essilor of America, the nation’s leading manufacturer of ophthalmic lenses, was honored with a scientific poster recognition from the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) for its Varilux Physio Enhanced™ lens technology. Essilor is the only spectacle lens company to have received an honor from the distinguished AAO audience, and
this is the second time Essilor lenses have been recognized for superior technological innovations.
The poster titled “Factoring Pupil Size Changes Into a Wavefront-Optimized Progressive Lens Design Improves Vision in Low Light Conditions,” by Dr. Marguerite McDonald, MD, FACS, describes the design of Varilux Physio Enhanced lenses. The poster was presented at AAO’s annual meeting on October 18, 2010 under the topic category “Optics, Refraction and Contact Lenses.”
“Essilor is proud to receive this exclusive honor and prestigious seal of approval from the American Academy of Ophthalmology that recognizes the science and technology behind Varilux Physio Enhanced lenses,” said Carl Bracy, vice president of marketing, Essilor of America. “We are pleased to be the only spectacle lens company to ever receive this honor for the technology behind our innovative designs.”
In 2006, Dr. McDonald’s poster titled “Wavefront Technology Improves Vision by Reducing Aberrations in Progressive Lenses,” which described the science behind Essilor’s Varilux Physio lenses, was awarded the “Best Poster” award by the AAO. Essilor was awarded “Best Poster” by the AAO for Varilux Physio lens technology in 2006.
